College Football Teams 2008 Statistically Compared using cfbstats.com: Utah vs. Boise State
The current college football rating system by popular polls should be scrapped. A review of football statistics this season shows this clearly. Too much emphasis is being placed upon a team going undefeated against weak opposition, rather than on hard football facts. We have already shown that USC is the much better team when compared to Alabama. On the other hand, Oklahoma and Texas are very close. We also showed Florida to be much stronger than, e.g., Texas Tech. and were surprised that Florida came out on top slightly over USC. What about a comparison of Utah and Boise State? Our YPPSYS Ratings give the edge to Boise State, whereas the BCS favors Utah. How do these stats see the teams?
College Football Teams 2008 Statistically Compared by LawPundit using statistics from cfbstats.com:
Utah vs. Boise State
In comparing these stats consider that the Massey Ratings rank the Utah schedule difficulty as the 50th most difficult in the country and the Boise State schedule difficulty as the 96th most difficult. Sagarin at USATODAY.COM has the respective schedule difficulty as 72nd for Utah and 115th for Boise State.
Accordingly, it is not clear that Utah should be ranked ahead of Boise State.
